Eating cleaner generally refers to adopting a diet that focuses on whole, minimally processed foods and eliminates or reduces the intake of processed and refined foods. This approach emphasizes fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats while minimizing the consumption of additives, preservatives, and artificial ingredients.
Here are some key principles of eating cleaner:
Whole Foods: Prioritize whole, unprocessed foods. This includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and nuts. These foods are nutrient-dense and provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
Minimize Processed Foods: Reduce your intake of processed and packaged foods that often contain additives, preservatives, and excessive amounts of salt and sugar. Opt for fresh, whole alternatives whenever possible.
Limit Added Sugar: Reduce your intake of added sugars, which are commonly found in sugary snacks, desserts, and sweetened beverages. Choose natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup if sweetness is needed.
Healthy Fats: Include sources of healthy fats in your diet, such as avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil. These fats are beneficial for heart health and provide a sense of satiety.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one third of food, one third for drink and one third for air.’”
